Last week in admissions we had a visit from a family who was interested in finding out about our school for their two young boys. One of the questions I always like to ask is how families find out about our school and why they are interested in learning more. This family was like many who are feeling as though their children are not known at their local school and that, due to large class sizes or bureaucratic systems, they are beginning to fall through the cracks. This is what led them to begin thinking about private school, but it isn’t what turned them towards Calvary.
What made the difference? Two Calvary students happened to be working at our local Boy Scouts Christmas tree lot when this particular mom was shopping for their tree. These two boys were helpful, polite, and articulate, those character traits that make the “mom radar” start going off. As a mom of boys, she was interested in what school these two charming boys attended so she asked. Their response of, “Calvary Christian School” prompted her to call Lauren, our Dean of Admissions, to schedule a visit. This mom knew that she was interested in a Christian school for her two young boys, but it was the fact that the Stice Twins shone their light on the Christmas tree lot that she decided to visit Calvary. Well done, boys. It is this type of community involvement that makes a difference for the kingdom. We never know when our faithfulness will shine a light for others.
